J
odo Literally, “the way of the stick”. The Jo is a pole with a length of 128 cms and a diameter of 2.4cms. The main advantage of the Jo is its flexibility. It can be used to thrust in a similar fashion to the (yari), or strike like a naginata, or held like a sword. Its main advantage over the sword is its additional length and versatility. Jodo is taught to complement the sword arts of Kendo and Iaido. Students learn the basic techniques in the ZNKR Seitei Jodo, which include single practice (Tandoku dosa) and paired practice (Sotai dosa), and the 12 Seitei Jodo Kata.
